Lost 2 fish, probably the same one. Had it on, few head shakes and off, moved on then came back to roughly the same area, good solid hit again few head shakes and off.

Need to modify my fly, pretty sure fish was grabbing the tail and not the hook.Was a 2/0 salmon hook fly about 2.5 inches in length - baitfish pattern
Don't want to make the fly smaller in length, any suggestions?

Trailer hooks. I use them all the time on my flesh patterns as the cutthroat love grabbing the tail and miss the hooks most of the time. When I switched over to the trailer hooks the problem was solved.

Thanks will try the trailer hook out...Looks like I'll be busy tonight...Hopefully I can get out for a bit tomorrow.
Love this time of year....Have a beautiful spot minutes from home....Have to takle advantage of it.. Who knows how long the clarity will last!

Thats what I meant. Trailer would indicate that your using two hooks. I used the wrong terminology.

Water clarity still seems very nice. I was out on Friday briefly as well, started fishing with minnow patterns after spotting a few fry moving downstream during the beginning of the outgoing tide. Still no luck for me down here this year.

As far as I know stinger/trailer hook means much the same thing - adding a short shank hook to a lure/fly that has a hook. You may be think of an approach that's called the waddington shank  tie the fly on a piece of folded wire (or a large hook with the bend cut off) but add a small short shank hook tied to a bit of line and lash to the shank. Most popular with intruder style flies.
