Heffley Lake
« on: July 22, 2009, 11:01:43 PM »

I'm heading out to a friends cabin at Heffley lake. I've downloaded a bathymetric map but can't find any information about the lake apart from maps and such. Has anyone fished this lake? I'll be trying a whole variety of flies, mostly different styles of bead-heads. Any particularly effective patterns, or parts of the lake that anyone has experience with?

Also, when trolling flies I suspect the ideal depth is somewhere between 15-20 feet, on and around shoals and weed beds. Is this generally the case?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Down at the narrows try sight fishing the marl shoal with a booby fly. Great fun. I have used a bobby fly and have had alot of fun. Good luck and have fun.

I was there a few years ago in late June, and did well on olive scuds and dragonfly nymphs, trolled slowly on a sinking line.  Those fishing chironomids did much better.  The hot spot was down at the far end of the lake from the resort.

The narrows at the west end of the lake. If my memory serves me correctly and it may not, but the resorts are at the east end of the lake. As you go down the lake towards the narrows to what some call Little Heffley on the right is a large marl shoal, this is the area that I like to fish.

I believe Heffley Lake resort is at the west end of the lake, by opposite I meant the east end.  The lake is oblong shape.  Head towards the narrows.
