Thompson-Spences Bridge, July 28th 2008
« on: July 29, 2008, 04:16:07 PM »

Hey folks,
Went and fished the Thompson yesterday. The east side of the river was closed in this fishery, so my two buddies and I lined up with the rest of the fisherman( about 10 others) on the west side. The morning was fairly productive, seen 8 fish landed, and my buddy pulled in a 9 lb. spring. After we were done, we checked the fish with the local band lady that was keeping score. She said that 60 fish were recorded over the weekend coming out of the river. She also said that when the count hits 150 fish, the DFO will shut down the fishery. My guess that the number will be reached by the end of next weekend. We did see a F/N fishing at the Nicola mouth across from us Monday, and he must have had 6 fish in an hours span. There was a lot of splashes on the east side of the river, which made everyone pretty envious. Anyways, that was our day. Looking forward to coming back to Chilliwack at the end of the week.  8)

Cheers

I fished it Saturday am.  Got in by boat.  It was open then.  A 1st nation guy and his uncle had 8 nice fish by the time we got there.  We lost 4, but the run was spooked by then, so fishing slowed.  It was interesting to see that after we were there, then that side of the river was closed.  As for the 150, well I have been told that locals have been getting about 6-8 a night at that spot for sometime now, so...

anyways the later run on the side you were fishing is less of a hassel and way bigger fish.

From what I understand, the east side was forbidden to fish.

Thompson River

Effective July 25, 2008 to August 11, 2008 06:00 hours to 21:00 hours, 4 days
per week, Friday to Monday only.

Waters of the Thompson River (Region 3) between the upstream side of the
confluence of the Thompson / Nicola Rivers downstream to the powerline crossing
between the Hwy #1 bridge at Spences Bridge and the Hwy #8 Bridge. (except
CLOSED on the east side of the river from the confluence of the Nicola/Thompson
rivers to the fishing boundary sign located approximately 1 km down stream
where the CP rail tracks cross HWY #8).

fn0467 said it was ok, that was the last one i saw.  but i talked with dfo and all was fine?  they said the band had a problem with tresspassing cause they had concerns bout numbers of fish, but cause we were in a boat no private land as high water etc.  and they actually crossed private land, i guess it was ok?

anyways, the locals are catching at least 6-8 per eve/morn. by rod and reel every day lately from the mouths of bonaparte, deadman, and nicola.

anyway, wait for sept, when big fish and only allowed where no hassels exist.
take care.

late run springs.  the shushwap fish basically and maybe some clearwater, they are 20 lb avg instead of the 6-8lb that we fish for now that are nicola, deadman, bonaparte etc fish.
