Pinks: from Richmond to Albion
« on: September 11, 2007, 09:05:55 PM »

First post after my post into the intro section...so hello!

Anyways, I have read a lot of posts ablout the elusive pinks so I thought I'd post my own experiences over the past week...

Firstly, I live in Richmond near 5Rd and Steveston so Triangle Rd is very convenient to kill an hour or two (especially with a pregnant wife at home)...so I've been there most days for an hour or two in conjuction with the incoming tide.  Sunday was HOT, for me at least, lots of other guys were blanked, including a fly guy who was hating me.  I nailed 5 pinkies in an hour and a half, 3 keepers that are currently awaiting brining and smoking!  However, I have found Triangle to be hit and miss (fickle).  Was there on Friday afternoon and watched a different fly guy nail 2 in a short span while the rest of us casting types were shut out.  Was there again today after work for an hour and there were no fish porpoising about, nor any jumpers.  There was still a few commercial guys in the centre of the river with their nets, but none of us shore folk had a sniff.

On Saturday, I hit the stretch of river (by boat) down from the Albion ferry on the Maple Ridge side (launched from Kanaka).  This was my FIRST time in that stretch of river so I apologize for not knowing all the local names for the exact spots!  Anyways, TONS of fish in the river there but not many guys taking them.  There were 3 of us on the boat and we kept 3 between us and only sniffed at a few others all day.  When we couldn't put the boat back on land due to low tide, we decided to head up to the mouth of the Stave to have a look.  One guy on land fishing under the bridge only.  We then back tracked to Crescent Island.  VERY shallow out there where the river diverts through on the Langley side.  This is where there were a bunch of guys fishing from shore and few boats at anchor in about 10-15 feet of water.  Saw a few fish on there....  Whipped around to the far side of the island where it was verging on a Vedder Gong Show on shore....guys stacked 10 feet apart for what seemed like miles!!  Anyways, only spent about 20 minutes there and never hit anything.  From there it was back to Kanaka and out of the water for the day...

Hey Taboo

Welcome to the forum and thanks for a great detailed post!

You're welcome.  I am VERY happy to have found a forum that has a lot of up to date reports and useful information so I thought I should wade in and try to contribute.

As much as pink years are fun, I can't wait 'til the Coho's start a coming!!  Any day now...?????
