Are the excavators part of the tolmie clay slide prevention project? My favourite side channel is now a desert.

The machines are removing gravel to be sold for construction etc. The district justifies the removal by saying it is a flood control measure. I am skeptical but I am also glad to see they are not digging in stream. The in-stream work permit issued by DFO for the gravel removal has been extended due to the continued low water........

Hope that helps!

Done in the name of flood protection. I question this as I believe it is a cheap as well as an easy way of getting aggregate. This is one of 12 sites on the Vedder this year, be very careful around them now and when we get a bump in water as some are very deep and will be soft in spots.

Wrote this as same time as Pat AV did, so some repetition here.

  • Cork floats hand made by myself

When I was in hatch matcher's on saturday randy was telling me that when they where at the train bridge last tuesday they could see that they dug deep holes all over the place with little room in between them. During low water you could see where to walk but he said that when the water comes up another six inches you will not be able to see where to walk at all. Now if someone falls into one of these holes good luck in getting out as what chris said the areas around the holes are very soft. So be careful out there when wading.

Nice pic  ;D

That hole is at least 10-12 feet deep as that shovel was well buried when it was under water.  Be careful around those holes once the excavator is out and the expected water level rise.   Fingers crossed.

Looking for fly spots I bet. ;D ;D three of the others are, above Hydro Bridge, Hoogies and Lickman. In meaning Peach do you mean the Rock Quarry?

Heck ya! I'm not sure where that peach road one is, I made it as far as the railway bridge...

I'm assuming there is another one at the bergman hole, and that the peach road one is below the quarry, did they put one at the quarry too? Where is hoogies, never heard of that name, must be a greendale locals only name ;)

So by this count we have possibly 8 now, which leaves 4 more...

Looks like my next walk is going to be a bit higher upriver this weekend...

Cheers

The Quarry one is just opposite the rock outcropping below the little parking area just on the curve past the Cultus Lake turnoff. This is the furthest one upstream.

The one at Hoogies is just below the foot bridge on the Rotary Trail halfway between Lickman Road and the Hydro Bridge. I forgot you are not a Greendale local. ;D ;D

Yes Hoogies is the one I'm referring to as the bergman hole... And the quarry one, has it been dug out on river left or right? Trying to figure out where exactly it might be... Maybe below curtains, or is it below the beaver hole?

Thanks for your help!

Right bank looking downstream. Walk up from Peach, it is the closest route and you cannot miss it. By the way, it is very deep.

Thanks for the props Dave! I didn't even notice until you mentioned it :D

Thanks Chris, I want to check that one out, deep sounds promising! As long as there is a decent depth of inflow and outflow, the rest will be left to the hands of the fish gods...
