Well, Pops-in-law and I made to Steveston well before dawn and launched to head toward the mouth. We were among the first four boats on the water today. Saw an amazing sunrise (and smacked two sox right off the hop)
. We had to wait another couple of hours before the next ones though and as soon as we hooked the first one, it seemed that forty other boats were immediately headed toward where we hooked up (others were also waiting awhile to hook up I guess
). Anyway. later on about noon, we found a really big school of biters and trolled back and forth across them untill we limted out. Great day and a limit of tasty ocean caughts too.

Oh yeah, tide was perfect and no wind; flat all day!!
Hey! Good report...good report.
SOX were HOT this weekend in the chuck...particularly off the Sandheads lightship and HOOTER..at one point..you could have walked on 'em...at several times... there was a school of about 500 finning on the surface...and the sounder blanked out they were so thick down there. AWESOME!
It was great to see 100 boats, and 3/4th of them hooked up at the same time, and absolutely NO ONE snagging, ripping hooks through the water, using 10, 20 or 30 foot leaders...
THAT was what sockeye fishing was about...one the water, using your gear and tackle, SPENDING MONEY to ANGLE for sockeye..and legitimately HOOK fish.
Myself and Montegobay worked it all weekend....awesome.
NO WORD OF A LIE, fake sick, GET OUT THERE NOW if you have a boat...get a few of the guys together..take the morning off...get a charter boat if you ain't got one, pony up the $$$, and EXPERIENCE what SALTWATER SOCKEYE fishing is about.
FRESH, PRIME GREENBACKS. NO SCARS< NO SNAGGING< NO YELLING< SPORTSMANLIKE BEHAVIORSnext person that tells me about how snagging is good for the economy in the Valley and for a few guys selling BB's and line, and a couple of hooks, should really get OFF their BUTT and get out there and truly see what SOCKEYE fishing is about.
As a matter of fact, it was such fun out there this weekend, they need to shut it down in the river right now...CLOSE it to all fishing.
NOW there's people posting proud pictures of their flossed springs on there...SAD SAD SAD..you accomplished ZERO....get out on the chuck, and see what it's about out there..and see the SKILL and effort required for LEGITIMATELY fishing for them. See the effort, the skill, the knowledge, etc etc etc..
Don't anyone tell me to get off my HIGH HORSE either, cuz by the way...I could care less if you can't afford it or say you can't..., if you can afford the gas to drive to the bar, drive a pick up truck with mega payments, etc......
YOU"LL NEVER change my opinion on flossing, and that it SHOULD< MUST< and WILL BE BANNED (as with several Vancouver Island Rivers---it already has!).
Last week of open Sox fishing in the chuck this late for another 4 years folks...you may not get another chance like this....
