Anyone familiar with a JW Young "windex"
« on: July 28, 2006, 07:18:54 AM »

I recently bought a Windex off of ebay...cost me $10 US so I didnt have any huge expectations.  The windex, I would say, is a light moocher.  It has a threaded nob and here in lies my question.  Inside the nob there is a plastic cylander held in with a clamp (sort of), the cylander  is cracked and doesnt look 100%, as well, there is nothing between that cylander and the portion of the spool that it snugs down against....I would expcet to see some drag washers?

I cant get any tension on the spool and I dont want to crank the nob down any harder and possibly worsen the crack...should there be some drag washers in there first ...I think maybe the previous owner did the nob on to tight trying to get the drag working and thats when it cracked.  I think with some washers it should be good to go regardless of the crack.

Any advice from someone who knows the reel???

Thanks

everything is built into the adjusting knob, can't see how it takes apart, last time i tried on a freedex a tiny spring shot out.....most spare parts for youngs reels are available at...garyatmilltackle.co.uk    hope this helps although parts would cost more than the reel.

Thanks gang...I just noticed all these replies for the first time now.  I will try and get a pic going.  as well, its a knock off...by open road...another danger of ebaying!  When I read windex reel, I assumed JW Young.  Being a Knock off though, maybe I could take a look at the spare parts avanue Bill, thanks for the offer.

All I can tell you is there is no drag on the reel right now and I would like to change that.
