I own 3 spincasters of different sizes and i find that is adequate for the species i target. However im ready to try some new setups im just curious what might be recommended by you fellow anglers...im trying to find a durable rod that would work for salmon and steelhead. Also i just bought a spool of berkley fireline 20lb test.Ive always used mono,do any of you use this product and if so what are youre thoughts on it? replies are always appreciated thanks in advance.

Not a fan of fireline. Tends to dig into your line and frays.

If you buy Fireline, get something like 50lbs so its at least managable.  20lbs is very (too) thin.  I really like Trilene Big Game, best line I've use by far.  Lasts longer than Ultragreen before it gets stiffer (I find maxima whitens and gets stiffer after half a dozen trips  ???  its still fishable, but not very nice).  Big Game is also cheaper than UG.  Trilene extra soft is not abrasion resistant enough and will actually fray if when you slide the float around with the tooth pick in the top!

Go Trilene Big Game, its the best I've used and pretty cheap as well ($12.99 for 330yds of 15lbs at Cnd Tire).

Berkely Big Gane or Maxima Ultragreen seem to be the best.  In faster waters I use 15lb, and in slower smaller systems I will use 12lb.  Either or I have no problems landing 30+ lb springs...

I use Maxima Ultragreen 15 lb main line and 8lb leader. My rod is a 10.5' Shimano Convergence and Reel is a Shimano Calcutta 400 baitcaster.

The rod is durable and cheap, I've landed alot of big springs, coho and chum with this setup.

I use 15lbs (Big Game) by the way.  Pound rating vs strength, Ultragreen and Big Game are pretty similar- both are way underrated- 12lbs rating = ~17lbs maybe.  Th BG feels thinner though.

Oh yeah, for reels, I really like my Abu Record RCN50.  Perfect size and casts nicely.  Very smooth and not too hard on the wallet.

I don't love either of my drift rods, but one is a Berkley Canadian Specialist 9'6" 8-15lbs (slightly too short, slightly too limber for float fishing, but great for tossing spinners) and a 10'6" Daiwa Heartland 12-20lbs (right length, a little stiff for light lines and tossing spinners).  Fenwick HMXs are really nice.

Most people have been "trained" to fish Maxima.  But there are plenty of other lines out there.  One of my favs is p-Line, they make some sweet lines for many applications plus is usually cheaper than Maxima.  Careful when putting heavy braid on rods as most rods are not rated for the heavy pound rating.

I have used a Calcutta 400 TE for the past 7-8 years or so and have a Luna 300 on its way as a backup or who knows maybe it will become primary.

Pretty sure the Maxima thing comes from Mark Pendlington of Sportfishing BC as Maxima was a sponsor.  I think that's where I remember the one-legged-boyscout-curb-stomping-a-gut-hooked-fish logo the most.
