Some people should't fish !!
« on: July 17, 2006, 10:21:27 PM »

Went out to target sturgie in the lower fraser today with a buddie all was going well no fish but a nice day on the water. First of all i pick him up at the Surrey fishing dock and he informs me he has no salt water license ( who goes out with out a license) so it's of to the Army and Navy in New west. He has to scale up the side of a pilling to get out of the boat because there's no public dock . There goes 30 min of my fishing time he returns with a license and it's of to a couple spots i have had luck in the past at. Again all is going well as i have some one to toss the anchor and pull it great I'm thinking . So first anchor drop above the Sky bridge just above Brownsville bar as lots of fish were showing in this deep hole. Buddie lets the anchor out perfectly and it sets up good. Fished for 30 min no takers off to the next spot . Drop anchor again on the Surrey side of Douglas island in a deeper hole so we needed more rope so buddie UN ties my anchor rope to let out more so we get a good angle of pull and the anchor hooks up he ties it up and were fishing again. 30 min goes by only a couple bull heads so we move to the poco side of Douglas island in a reel deep hole lie 65 feet again buddie lets the anchor out and it's straight up and down and not biting so he unties the rope to let out more line i notice there's only 5 feet left max and inform to tie it off and make sure he dose't let go of the rope he says yeah don't worry then 5 seconds later lets go of the rope and kiss my solid stock aluminum anchor good bye YOU IDIOT I YELL !!!!! . Home made anchor Ive had for two years 40 lbs max easy to pull by my self never rust the dream anchor any one who seen it wanted it's UN replaceable I'm choked about this one couldn't of happend at a worse time in the season. Buddie was apologizing the whole way back to ramp saying i will get you another one but it's not going to happen quick enough for me as I'm planning on fishing all month. 20 feet of heavy galvanized chain 75 feet of good quality 3/8 " rope and anchor just sitting there 1/4 mile below the gill netter pub ZIPPER HEAD GILLIGAN LOSER .........................

Not until my anchor is replaced with one as good or better he also does fabrication welding like i do but getting solid stock aluminum in the dimensions you want is not cheap. I used to work in a CNC shop making props for the movies and all the material was gathered and fabbed up at this shop i welded it up there as well i guess he's going to find out the price of aluminum and then has to find a place to make another one similar to that one. He has access to a shop and welder and has a c ticket so he can slap one together but it won't be quick enough for me.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Guess your friend won't be accompanying you on any fishing trips anytime soon. ::)

I have another one made of mild steel it weighs nearly 90 lbs and has all ready given one buddie a hernia better start working out again and taking all my supplements . After todays episode i will be telling everyone who comes aboard to just sit there and don't touch anything you want something done right do it your self such a simple task turned in to a nightmare. Scares me to think he is a Rigger Fitter by trade and doesn't have the common sense to make sure that it's tied off i work below this guy in dagerous situation scary.

Or always keep lines tie down before chaking anything over board. (or off dock)
I lost a crab trap cause it was tied to pier. And thrown a little bit too far.  :P

What if you get a big sturgeon...don't you have to chase it or at least beach the boat to land the fish...why not have a floaton your anchor line like all the spring fishermen?  if you had a float on the end , you could quickly untie to chase a fish or what ever and never loose another anchor again.

Dont worry it happens to us all. Never let noobs handle anything i learned that when i brought some people salmon fishing and let them drive for a second while i rigged gear. Told them to go straight sure enough they turn and the current combined with the turn somehow got my wires in the prop. Im flipping out as the boats being washed onshore in 5 foot waves. Had to throw anchor near shore and almost had to jump in the water in the freezing weather to get the danm tehning untangled. Countless other times ive had people do dumb things but i guess its not all their fault best to do it yourself.

I left an anchor in a mess of old logging cables not far from there, so your anchor has company. Accidents happen, I use a three inch plumbing strainer with a chain for an anchor now. Perfect for the Fraser.

It was tied off before numb scull touched it . Tied to my scotchman which I use when chasing Sturgie's or Chinook as for how many fishing partners I go through if someone's that STUPID he wont be going back out on my boat . It's not just a piece of metal it was the perfect anchor had it snagged on many things on the bottom with the zap strap holding the chain to the top attachment I would simply pin it with the moter the zap would break and the direction of pull would change as it had an attachment point at the bottom as well allways get it back. Hopefully he does read this maybe he will get me a new one ASAP.

The blame is on you, not on your friend.
If you want things done properly, do them yourself.

So you lost a nice anchor...big deal! I had a friend lose my backup rod and reel two years ago...so what? Sh*t happens!
I am sure he feels bad enough about his mistake. No need to rub it in his face anymore.

Lighten up and start looking for another anchor. Life is too short to fret over a piece of metal sitting on the bottom of the Fraser.

Cheers, Milo

Yeah your all right it's my fault Should have done it myself if you want something done right do it your self . That's why from now on i will only be taking a select few out with me ones that have gone through a week's training on not being STUPID WITH OTHER PEOPLES BELONGINGS it's only a piece of AUMINUM NO BIG DEAL !!!!!!!!!! ONLY A COMPLETE IDIOT WOULD LET THE ROPE GO . This is the chilled out version of me ten years ago i would have come UN glued snapped lost it . With age i have mellowed out which is a good thing this post was just a way to vent instead of flipping out on my buddie .
