Freshet in Fraser
« on: June 12, 2013, 11:19:49 AM »

This might be a really noob question, but typically, when does freshet end in the Fraser?  Are we looking at the tail-end of summer (ie. late August)?

It depends on the snow pack and melt rate. Water visibility can start improving in July during years when snow pack is low. Some years, like two years ago, water clarity did not improve until early September.

Check out the graph of the last 100 years of Fraser flows recorded at Hope from Water Survey Canada.

According to Fred's latest fishing report, Freshet started earlier this year and therefore the river should (hopefully) clear up sooner as a result.  They also are forecasting a July 16th opening on the Fraser for Springs
