Oct. 9 Vedder Conditions
« on: October 09, 2004, 10:09:24 AM »

Just checked the Vedder and surprisely after all the rain yesterday it is starting to come around. It shows the work CRAC is doing on the clay slides is paying off. Of course it is up some and would not want to say how long it will take to become really fishable but should be by tomorrow by the latest if no more rain

A number of dieheart anglers out.

Fulcrum Country may be ok but would need a report from there to confirm.

If I get a chance will check it again later in the day. When it clears it should be good, even for me. ;D ;D

Without the hydrometer working we were flying blind this morning. Had a report last night that the river was in great condition...unfortunatly the overnight rain changed all that.

Was out EARLY this morning...not worth the long drive. The viz was about a foot and none of us could claim we had a legit hit. My fresh coho roe's only fan was a little sucker fish, yay  ::) . That was the most action the 3 of us saw.

We were all using different setups - roe, colorado blades and various flies.

Good new is the viz was getting better throughout the morning. Bad news is it was raining pretty heavy as we were leaving.

Cheers

Just checked the river and it is rounding into shape nicely even though the rain has started up again. The guys out on the river, lots of them and some of them are getting fish. ;D Lots and lots of fish surfacing so they are on the move.

Just looked at Lickman and one rod was cleaning 2 nice coho, a fairly clean chum. and a 20 pound spring. Most anglers were long lining there though and saw 3 fish lost in as many minutes by them.

On the other hand talked to a friend who is a short floater and he is hitting fish as well so I have come back to get the equipment and heading out to break the streak. ;D

With the water up a foot or so I have my spot picked out. ;D ;D ;D

Anyone contemplating going out it might be a look see this afternoon.

Hope I can add a positive report later.

I drove over the vedder cannel today around 2:30 and the water looked just like French Vanilla Capacino from Tim Hortons. It will need a day or two to have half decent visability. Well there is more than enough water for those fishies now so all I can say is YEEHAAAAAAAA. Time to pull out my secret weapon, my cotton candy roe, (YUMMY).

Well put in a good 4 hours between On The Way Store and the Pointa Vista and the water visibility and the water level was just perfect for the spot I fished.

Fished one hour and a half with no results so took a break as the rain was coming down pretty good so headed for the Point for an enjoyable late lunch.

After lunch back to the same spot and was feeling very confident as I have caught a good number of fish in this spot before in similar water conditions and with a full stomack I usually fish better. ;D

The fish must have been feeling pretty full as well as they certainly were not interested in the roe I was offering them. A few, mostly springs were surfacing but they were not at all interested and not even a chum.

A couple of other anglers and their wives were also having no luck and they had put in a fair amount of time. Was pleased to see the ladies fill a garbage bag with their own litter and others garbage they picked up just before they left.  Made a point of thanking them with a little plug as well for the Cleanup Coalition's program on the Chilliwack/Vedder River.

I continued to work at it and the only time my float went down was when I skillfully hooked a submerged maple leaf. Maybe this was telling me something that I should be wearing my Toronto Maple Leaf hat as I am not rolling rolling right along this season. ;D ;D ;D

Another angler popped in for a few minutes float fishing with a blade, said he lost 2 coho last night at the same spot but he too came up empty but he barbed a fish of some sort but it fell off as it came to the surface.

I fished to 6 as wanted to get home to catch the last few innings of my beloved Dodgers game a great pitching win by the way for Lima.

As the game was also on the radio I took the time to once again stop at Lickman Road for a boo.

The long linners were still having success with 3 nice coho, a spring and a clean chum on the beach, different fish than when I had stopped there around noon.

Dejected by my lack of success once again I headed home to the ball game, a 4 -0 win by the Dodgers. ;D

I think tomorrow morning will be the ice breaker as I will perdict a fish as it worked a couple of times on steelhead last year when I forcast a fish the night before.

I have to try something before I completly loss my confidence. O yes will put on the Leaf hat as well. ;D

The water should be improving overnight and should be just excellent for those plannning a trip tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
