Mike Lake

So I went to Mike Lake today. The lake was beautiful and the fish were jumping like crazy yet I GOT SKUNKED!!! There were 6 other guys on the lake who also got skunked! It made for a nice "practice round" until I saw two idiots take their canoe to the other side of the lake and start a fire for no apparent reason because it was not that cold. Its people like that who wreck nice ares for others.

Troutslayer... myself and Fish Hunter routinely get skunked in that lake.

It is nothing new for us. I think we are cursed.

Does Mike lake not still have ice on it. When I checked it last week it was still 3/4 frozen.

There was no ice on the lake. Still snow around the edges though.  :D

  WOW that melted fast. I guess that means I can hit that lake instead of the others.  ;D It will be a nice 10min drive  ;D

Last year about this time I saw the same kind of action on Mike Lake that you are describing.  There were swirly subsurface rises all over the place but the fish didn't want anything I was offering (or that of anyone else on the lake, for that matter).  After lots of trial and error, I eventually tied on a #14 black with silver rib chronie emerger pattern with a small tuft of deer hair on the back and trolled it very slowly on a floating line.  Once I made that switch it was non-stop fish for me while the other guys out there continued to get nothing.

When you see them swirling just subsurface put a chronie on about 1 foot below the surface.

passed by today on the way home from the stave, talked to a few guys and they said they had no luck, hopefuly tomorrow the lake will be kinder to me

If you get desperate, and the purists will frown, put a little piece of dew worm on your hook at the end of your floating and sinking fly line and you should do well.
