Bar fishing

What does everyone use for bait for bar fishing the lower fraser? Salted or boraxed roe? Also what's the difference?

if your roe is good quality and salted, the skein will be toughened and stay on the hook longer than boraxed roe.

Almost everyone I've encountered uses roe that's been boraxed or cured with the commonly found off the shelf cures (Procure, Pautzke's etc).

I use both , usually I sprinkle some salt on fresh skeins and cover them with borax if im in a hurry , or I let it sit for a day in a plastic container for a day , drain it and cover wit borax if I have time to make it more rubberish . but fresher stuff works the best :) coho very picky on roe .

just to clarify, i don't recommend using straight salt for curing or you run the risk of burning your roe....i add salt to my cure to toughen the skein or i make a salt brine solution to do a quick cure of my roe then air dry over night.

FWIW , my Dad used to use salted roe roe for jack springs early in the season and switched to boraxed roe for fall coho , he always did very well as my dinner plate can attest to
