No wonder the fishing wasn't that hot... May 8, 2009
« on: May 08, 2009, 09:54:10 PM »

...when you have competition like this. I have never seen an otter in the wild before, so I put down the rod, grabbed my camera and watched him hunt. Very cool.

After changing spots to get away from Mr. Otter, a cutthroat decided to come in for a snack and instead left his eye behind. Sorry little fella!

In the end, a couple of hits and one wild cutthroat to the net, however the otter made it memorable.

That's incredible. Must be quite a hook set to yank his eye ball out. ;D

Ic, thanx for the link. I am using ultra light tackle, so i guess the 3/4 oz kinda too heavy for me, is there any smaller one around or under 1/16 oz? I've look around they are rarely available or just few selections of colors...

They don't make them that small.

Yes the 3/4 oz is overkill for ultralight tackle and cutthroat fishing.  I use the Ultra in 1/8 oz. Have never seen them, and doubt they are manufactured, any smaller. Suggest you don't need a wide assortment of colours for cutthroat fishing. Plain Jane silver/nickel is all I have used for used for many years...and to good effect. However I do like adding a strip of prism tape.

Army and Navy. Berry's definitely carry them:

I have bought mine over the years at Army and Navy. Would suggest picking up a pack of Eagle Claw spoon replacement hooks #4 or Gammie open eye siwash #4. Perfect size for the 1/8 oz.

I've always wonder what the chances were for hooking something odd , like an eye for example... lol

I've seen people catch the odd crab with their hook before...  :o

Cool pics.  In the past I've always been surprised at how little having predators in the area (otters, seals, loons, etc) has affected my fishing success.  Maybe I've just been lucky.
