Great day brightener Rod, and motivation to start plannig the upcoming season.
I had a similar, short line, hookup to that second fish in the video. We were fishing fairly close to the rocks near the white marker on Cowan's Point. I had just put a new small herring on the hooks. When I started to let line out I notied that the line had somehow gotten wrapped around the spindle inside and behind the spool. So, I undid the tension nut, took the spool off to clear the line. Before I got the spool back on a 14lb Chinook took the bait that was still floating on the surface 15 feet behind the boat. Now I've got an aggressive fish ON a rod in one hand and the reel spool in the other hand. In the midst of an adrenelin rush I was desperately trying to hold the rod sideways so that I can jamb the spool back on, let the fish sotra-kinda take some line, and not lose the fish. I managed to get the spool on and somewherre in the chaos of the fight that ensued my father-in-law managed to get the tension nut threaded back on. We did manage to get that chinook it the net and on the BBQ.
Similar happened one other time but the reel was together and the taker was a seagull hooked in the beak. (The gull was released)
