Buntzen Lake Oct. 1
« on: October 02, 2005, 12:46:40 AM »

Arrived at Buntzen at 3:00pm light wind blowing. After launching our small boat trolled acroos the lake nothing. Found ourselves an area with some logs at water edge, so tried fly fishing. Changed 3 types of fly no trout but caught 6 NPM.
Wonder if it was NPM they released, not trout???

What depth were you fishing?  I've been using a type 3 sink line and big ugly leeches and have been having excellent success there.  As for the pike minnows, I've been hooking into one for every 10 rainbows....so dont get the impression that the pike minnows have taken over.

i live about 5 mins from buntzen and fish there quit often. There are lots of pike minnows but only if you throw on  a float and worm you will get many. If you troll flies you should end up getting many rainbows and the odd pike minnow.

Was fly casting with slow sinking line, green leech. Maybe I should try trolling a wooly bugger.
Should I surface troll or...?

squaw fish seem to be found close to shore.  Sometimes troll the surface but most of the time deeper.  I remember last fall the surface was working good in the little inlet past the old hachery to the left.
