favorite way to brine and use shrimp/prawns
« on: November 21, 2008, 12:28:41 PM »

Alright, I know most of you love using roe, but here's a thread to open your eyes to the wonderful world of shrimp and prawns.
For someone who loves curing and fishing with roe, I've recently been using prawns more and more. For the most part, I've been buying pre cured prawns, but am just starting to dabble in curing them myself.  I won't waste space by typing the recipe, go to Pro cure for the starter recipe.

Also, If you want a bait that fishes like roe, but lasts longer, you can cut them in chunks and sprinkle fire cure on them and cure them like roe.  I'm really digging this way of fishing.

Here's some of the ways I've been using them.
1) Cut in chunks and use like roe with a corkie and yarn.
2) thread them on whole with head down using a jig and float.
3) use only tail with corkie and yarn.

I've already boated 5 steelhead and several chum and springs this way this year on Washington waters.  Can't wait to use in BC next year.

Does anyone have a different way of brining than the salt solution or fire cure ways I talked about?

I just cure them with Pro Cure and they worked just fine.
