For salmon (especially Coho) the sparse rolled muddlers in natural or colors like HOOK showed work well. However for Bull Trout and other fish actually eating minnows I like to tie them less sparse and with a bigger spun deer hair head like they use in bass flies but just smaller. For the wing I use mallard or even a zonker strip which is then also the tail. The second kind is actually called a Zuddler.

Remember in dirty water bigger chartreuse and completely white muddlers or zuddlers work the best.
