« on: April 10, 2012, 08:56:16 PM »

Have not seen a post on this yet, so I thought I would give everybody a heads up.When improvements to the Ruskin dam and power station begin(soon) the rec site and river access through it will be closed....for SIX YEARS.....Hayward street will be closed from the dam to Keystone Ave with no parking allowed.More details and info on the BC Hydro website..........influx of chum shankers coming soon to a river near you.......

Looked on teh Hydro website and cant find anything that says Ruskin will be closed to Keystone on Hayward. Could you link to the article you saw that in?

If its just to Keystone, Im alright with that. You will need to hike a bit, but it would be worth it.

Talked to the BC hydro crew at the sportsman show and they said they weren't sure if they would allow people access by the toilet bowl (walking traffic only) but that must have changed. Either way good news for me  as I'm just a short bike ride away. Hopefully it gets rid of a lot of the poor etiquette and poachers that prey on the Stave

X2  these fish are far more important to watersheds than are given credit.  Their progeny feed all kinds of predators and their spawned out carcasses provide much needed nutrients to coastal rivers..

Close chum fisheries, all of them.

but then where will the sturgeon guides (and recreational fishers) get their roe?
I would bet the high proportion of does being taken plays a part in the declining stocks.
