Now this is Fishing
« on: June 26, 2008, 12:04:03 AM »

I guess you can't really C&R, so you better hit the right one, which would be kinda hard considering how many are flying around. Hope you enjoy the movie  ;)
Makes me wanna go try it, looks like fun  ;D

now I know all of you are probably thinking this but don't have the guts to say it, but I think that might be kind of fun if you were to do that with salmon on the fraser ;D
that being said, I would never but just  thinking about it kinda gives me a chuckle.......hey wait, is there really a difference to what we do here by flossing on the rivers........... ::)

I'm not certain if it is still mentioned in the fishing synopsis, but, if I recall correctly bowfishing was/is allowed in BC, but ONLY in tidal waters. While the idea does pique my interest, and I have had some experience with bows, I think I have about enough money currently invested in the fishing equipment I already have (or at least that's what my wife would say  ::) ;D).

I have spearfished before, never used a bow though.  I can say this ....you maim fish pretty badly either way if you don't get a solid shot.  Those guys probably wounded far more than they hit solidly.

So I dunno....to me, sort of looks like a brand of fun that hasn't been around for a while and gets revived whenever rednecks get a couple of spare bucks to blow.

I'd have to agree with marmot, particularly on the likelyhood of maiming the fish if you're off in your shot. That being said, the fish they are targeting is an invasive species that has become a huge problem in the states where it has become established. I don't recall what it is called, but it is apparently a predatory species, and reproduces prolifically. Also, due to its habit of leaping high, fast, and far out of the water when there is a disturbance, like a boat going by, they have caused numerous injuries to boaters, and I believe a fatality as well. So while bowfishing might not be a good idea for around here, I don't see any problem with it where this video was filmed, and I'd even be willing to participate if I was in that area. It's pest control.

(And now you know why I chose clownfish as a handle.)

Well, if they are indeed and invasive species, I retract my comment!!

If thats the case, they should be using RPGs too.

I will admit it:
I WANT TO TRY IT OUT.

Fishing for the Asian flying carp in Illinois is definitely on my 'to do' fishing list.

And no, I do not consider myself a redneck. :D
