The Winter Season
« on: October 31, 2004, 07:39:50 PM »

Hey all.

For those of you who remember my constant update reports while I was fishing in the Channel Islands....my cousin who guided me to many a mackerel and turbot is now coming to Canada.

He is coming December/January :'(

I am hopeful that there might be somethign to try to catch, but I must confess that I usually hang up the waders when the chum are done.

Can anyone enlighten me on what is happening over the Xmas break. Vedder steelhead (can you retain any of these), steelhead on the cap? Trout? Maybe even a sturgeon charter?

Thanks guys
Vince

You can retain one hatchery steelhead on the Vedder a day. As the Capilano, there is a non retention on steelheads. (both wild and hatchery)

December and part of January I am usually not in town, but...

Steelhead season is just beginning on the Vedder, the odd fish will be milling about for you to find.

Since you are in North Van, you should venture up to Squamish and Cheakamus during that time of the year. Not just for the fishing, but the eagle viewing will be fantastic during that time. There will be bull trout around to catch and release of course.

Sturgeon fishing will only be fair in the Fraser. September to November is best.
