Fraser Trout / Dollies
« on: November 13, 2010, 12:40:26 PM »

Looking for a bit of general advice on timing and tactics for targeting Cutties and Dollies in the non-tidal Fraser if anyone can oblige?
Many Thanks,
Nick

Timing: now till it rises and colours up either towards the end of March or in April. Tactics: egg patterns and flesh flies now. General bait fish or minnow patterns like muddlers, egg and eye, tied done mylar minnows (to name a few), wooly buggers in black and olive, nymph patterns through out the period. Alevin patterns in late january through into early March. Fry patterns after that. Watch for midge hatches (chirnomids in back waters) - same as the interior but smaller #16 & smaller, stone fly hatches and mayflies particularly in late winter into spring.

Thanks Ralph! Would you say its as good a bet to concentrate on the trout and dollies that follow the Salmon up the tribs?

whispers are that the Fraser itself is fishing fairly well already. The tribs can be good but it is often a hit or miss (mostly miss :D) proposition.

Cool, thanks for the info. Have been fishing one of the local tribs, no luck with the fly rod yet but have had a couple of Dollies and a nice Bow on the Jensen Eggs. Will keep persevering and report back!
