Biffchan, the hatchery puts in hatchery rainbows they say, but they are really hacthery steelhead smolts. They keep them in the hacthery for some time to give people some fun on the river with smaller ones, and bigger ones. it wasnt a hacthery cutty, which was my first guess when my dad brought it out of the water, but no slash and the colours of  rainbow. it was for sure not a cutty. your also aloud to kepp them, but we didnt. Most of them were 7-9inches and few over and then my dads 16-17incher. it could have possobly been a hatchery rainbow? but alls I know is that we were mainly catching the steely smolts and a few cutties.

Boy some of you are picky!

ok thanks . man... I need a map of this place . I have been up to the tami creek site about 100 times , but still don't know the area when it comes to names of streets and such . I usally just walk down the river to find my spots , so i have probably been to that area but don't know it . any where to get a map of the river ?

Vedder River

BTW the magical number for smallest steelhead has been bumped down to a measly 15 inches. Although according to the regs it must be 50cm (19.7inches) to be considered a steelhead.

biffchan, they keep the steelhead smolts in the hatchery longer than they would if they wanted them to travel to sea. the hatchery is trying to improve the amount of so called "Resident Rainbows" which they want these smolts to become. by keeping the smolts in the hatch longer, they will not travel to sea ;)

Was there last night, fished some pocket water below the hatchery while the wife and kids had a swim at the lake. Two hours, 12 bows (10 to 12 inches) on Zulu & Elk Hair Caddis, all released. Not my beloved Thompson but good action for the lower mainland.
