CJ your post was very entertaining, & hopefully does start some educational dialogue. I know too many good rods that won't even go near the Veddar anymore because of this type of combat lining. Hopefully we can educate.

Otto that was the funniest playing post I have ever read ,I am seriously crying right now."the killing hands"
I gotta use that one some time .LOL. ;D

i just went fishing...to my secret fishing hole....i feel much beer now......... ;D

Hey Otto.  Can you do long poling with salmon on Vedder.  I can see hooking them, but since they cannot run, it would be a challenge landing them.  Ever done it?

Another thing to think about. When 20 or more people are fishing a certain spot, lots of fish get caught cause there are so many rods.

So just cause your alone and fishing seems slow, just think of those crowded spots and how many guys are fishing. If you put in some time and alittle walking, you will find a nice uncrowded spot.

So now it's up to you, crowds or alone. See many fish caught, or just what you catch.
Good Luck.

You are a clever guy Norm... dead right!

landing them is easy. you let the backbone of the pole take up the load. having a high qaulity line helps too, but 98% of the work is done by the pole flexing. you can guide the fish back and forth, closer and closer to you, then you can net them.

still torn between my braided mainline and a highly stretchable deep sea fishing mono line, (it will have a lot of give, thus absorbing shock, however the braid is vastly superior in the strength dept.)

have watched fishers in the caribiean ocean using longpoles like mine to haul in 600 lb tunas, so it can't be that hard to land a 30 lb sockeye..........

waiting fer the paycheck to get the salmon stamps....then i'm bringing out the heavy backbone fiberglass pole, a handcarved bottle cork float, braided line with stainless steel swivel, with a 15 lb test Rapala Tough leader and a #6 barbless hook with a piglet pink 4" rubber worm.
just the looks on the gong show crowds faces when i land a sock or spring will be reward enough.

Idiot number 1 leaves the parking lot at Lickman and wades across the riffle in ankle deep water, he stops about 8 feet from the lip of the riffle and starts to fish the slot about 15 to 20 feet in front of him. Across the river fishing from the Vedder campground side is a group of fishermen fishing from the high bank, they are all casting their lines so the they land within 10 feet of the riffles edge. The poster with the funny story makes a couple of casts then throws a cast that lands past and almost hits the fishermnan who is standing in ankle deep water well back from the edge of the riffle.  Our poster with the funny story yells out to the fisherman standing on the other side of the river hey buddy thats not a very safe place to stand.  Idiot number two who was talking to an older gentleman says Quote  If you had done that to me I would come over here and smacked you up the side of your head.  I was not being confrontational I was just stating a fact.  Our poster states in his post that he been around and knows what he is doing when out on the river and in the time I watched him fishing I would agree. Thus my statement, accomplished casters who consistantly put their  float in the same general spot fifty feet from them for hours on end dont all of a sudden miss their  spot by thirty feet  and almost hit the only fisherman standing on the other side of the run.  Then  to follow it with a statement, hey buddy thats not a very safe place to stand  comes off as a threat even to the most easy going fisherman. I cant say anything about numbers three and four but to my way of thinking there is only one idiot in the entire story. There are thousands of fisherman in the lower mainland but sometimes it is a small world, embellishing a story with your own slant  may  not get noticed but other  times maybe the truth will come out.
Keeping  your float in the rive will result in tight lines

Well Ian ... instead of refering  to you as #2  I kinda like the fishing bum handle  ;)

I would like to point out that your statement on the river is in fact confrontational and if you read the posts from other people on this thread many of them would not have treated you with the courtesy I did regardles of your age.

Idiot number two who was talking to an older gentleman says Quote  If you had done that to me I would come over here and smacked you up the side of your head.  I was not being confrontational

Your statement on the river even in the light you paint it had you made it to the wrong guy resulted in real trouble for you. I would like to encourage you next time you feel the need to beak off about smacking someone to show more restraint.

Your comments about the distances are off... far off, might want to check those glasses, or get some.

Firstly #1 came close to the very edge between 4-5 feet from the lip.

Secondly I had spent some time casting at that pool and had noticed that the majority of hookups being made were tight against the wall we were casting towards. Because of this I was ... for some time casting not 10 feet from the ledge but closer to 2-3 feet from edge of the ledge of which you speak.

Thank you for your kind comments about my casting ability... I appreciate that!

But Ian, if you spent a moment or two poking around this site you would come across my previous posts... In there you will find out the fact that my set up is brand new. I have had several threads asking the lads here what they thought of different setups and such. Go on check it out! My rod and reel set are virtualy brand new.

Now when I get new Gear it takes me a couple of weeks to break it in. During this "breaking in" period unfortunatly I am prone to the occasional miscast.

Thats what happened here. #1 was standing in a dangerous position. You totaly misread my actions on the river and made your comment accordingly.

When I made the miscast in that fellers direction I only overshot it by about 6-8 feet... a far cry from the 30 foot overshot you claim to have seen.

My report is factual as posted. But I am going to retract the "idiot" comments.

Welcome to the site, fishingbum.

Fishassassin is right man, two sides to every story, but in this case it sounds like there is a whole line up of "IDIOTS" waiting to tell their side.

In the interests of restraint and peace I have "edited" my report removing the word "idiot" and several comments that while fun to read... in hind site might offend.
