I know mostly everyone would love to afford the highend rods, but some of us married types who have wifes who have no understanding of the virtues of standing on a river bank. What is a reasonably good rod in the $100.00 range?presently I use a Berkley IM7 10'6 ,I have found it a bit to light when you hook a big spring (targeting Koho).

Shimanao Convergence is a decent rod and in your price range.  Also, if you like your Berkely you can get a Berkely Canadian specialist series 10'6" for about $90.00 at Marine West on Second and Fir in Vancouver.  Not a bad rod for the price.  It's a medium casting rod.

I had a trophy XL fraser king and it was a great (cheap) rod.  I also really like my diawa algonquin 10.5...its a beater for the fraser but its still a nice blank.

Lots of great suggestions here, but basically go with the best you can afford. Not everyone can afford a custom built Sage, which is why I build my own, if I want a big name. Shimano, Berkley, Trophy ,Diawa, Fenwick, and St.Croix all build very useable and reasonably priced sticks, that will serve you well for years if they are not abused. :)

yeah, I also have  a sage 3106 and   it broke   and   pay up I did,,,
but  it's a sweet rod  though . I heard if you break a st. croix  they just replace the broken  Half . you dont   have to pay for no new guides etc.etc.   but    I  haven't used one,  so I dont  know   how they  fish, any one else use a st. croix?

for you money go with the sage 3113 the best action rod ive ever used, once you go with a soft rod you'll never go back, also the best liftime warrenty in the rod buissines, you could snap the rod over your knee and they'll replace it for you, you just have to pay shipping charges. They are  expensive so i dont know if they are the rods for you but bar non the best rod, if you say others are the best you havent fished with a sage. 8)

I've never  figured out what the action refers to. What does it refer to? Slow action mean a stiffer rod?

A slow action rod will bend throughout the blank and a fast action rod has a sensitive tip. The stiffness (amount of force needed to make a rod bend) is usually measured as light, medium, heavy, etc.

lot's of good advice here but..... you CANNOT get the original series blanks from sage for drift rods. They have gone full factory rods only, changed the colour, and they are outrageously priced.
Talon makes a L2 (10ft 6) which is probably exactly what your after, they also make a LT2 and a ML2 and none of these are sticks.
Loomis has discontinued most of thier 11ft rods and blanks that were popular up here, though some of thier 10.6 models are availlable. If you are at all hard on gear, don't get a GL3 they are beautiful rods to fish but in the wrong hands they can break easy... awesome rod though.
I would look at a GL2 1262 or 1263 in the STR version for the line ratings you use

Hey all,

Just my 2 cents, I have a trophy XL with an okuma avenger reel...I know it not a top of line rod, but for the money it is a great rod, I've landed a pretty fat spring on the vedder and yet it was light enough to still have a great time with 2-4 lb trout.
