Quick question
« on: May 26, 2006, 12:57:09 PM »

I'm just wondering, let's say hypothetically that a friend who doesn't have a fishing licence goes to the river with me. I hook into one and let them fight it. Who's fish would it be, and would there be any fines or anything? Something I've been thinking about for a while.

I'm not sure but I think your friend could get fined if caught.Someone else might want to clarify this though.

Read all about it at the site below.
It is illegal to:
- sport fish for finfish and/or shellfish without a licence.
- tend another recreational fisher’s gear without possessing a licence yourself.

Yes, I am pretty sure there would be a fine for fishing without a license.  And I am assuming your friend is not under sixteen years of age, and not a Treaty Indian.  If they fall into those categories they would be exempt from purchasing a license. Page 6 of the Freshwater Fishing regulations goes over this subject pretty well.

yeah I knew there would be some sort of penalty in the equation somewhere. I was thinking more along the lines of handing him the rod just as i were to land the fish but now that I definitively know that it's illegal to tend someones gear w/o a licence it's all good. Oh yeah in case you were wondering I Don't have a friend like that. Thanks a lot guys
