I was wondering which waders you people prefer  to use during steelie season? I have both and use my neos during steelie season and breathable for salmon/warmer wheather fishing.

Voted neoprene by accident but I only use breathables. Neoprene is so bulky and hot I can't stand them. Get a good pair of breathables and layer properly underneath and you shouldn't have any issues with being cold.

I'm rather new to the steelie fishing but I do have both neo's and breathers.  I find it really depends how much walking vs standing in water I'll be doing.  If I have to hike I'd way rather be cold in the water than sweat in my gear.  But if it's a short walk and a lot of slow movement and standing in water I'll be wearing my neoprene's.  That is all temperature dependent of course.   When it's warm out I only wear my breathables, got a pair of Cloudveil's and I LOVE THEM!!!

breathables and a good pair of fleece underneath is better than neos by a long shot IMO

I wear only my breathables, hot or cold days, just layer them the way you want. I only use my neos as backups or when im float tubing on a lake.

breathables all the way with the proper undergarment keep my warmer than neopreans and easer to get around in and no real issue with sweating and the dampness that will build up in neos when winter steelheading and walking for long periods of time my .02

Good neoprene's. I have had many a Buddy attempt to follow me into some of our more remote WC flows wearing breathables, and in a great many of those occasions, the end result was their reducing their "waders" into fancy coveralls. They simply cannot hold up to the abuse that neo's can. Of course if you're only working the more "civilized" LML flows with easy access, I guess they'd be fine... ::)

The other factor, quite well exemplified this year, is the cold factor. I find neo's inherently much warmer when tossing offerings out between the ice flows. ;)

Except maybe for float tubing in an ice-cold lake, I can't think of any other application in which the neos would outperform breathables.
With proper layering, breathables can be as warm (or even warmer) as any neos.

In most weather conditions either will work just fine.

In hot weather neoprenes are unbearable.  Standing in water in cold conditions I prefer neoprenes, and neoprenes seem to take abuse better.
