A River Runs Into It - River Mouth/Fraser Oct.15/06
« on: October 15, 2006, 06:15:59 PM »

Well talked to Young Gun last night and we decided to hit the mouth of a local river which runs into the Fraser for coho and chum. As we arrive, clean chum are jumpin everywhere showing their presents. I put on a big spoon, wade out up to my chest and prepare for casting. In the background, Young Gun is tying up is spoon before wanting to hook into some fish.

I make a cast and let the spoon sink while counting to see how deep it is so i know how fast and when to start retirieving my spoon on my future casts. It was just a test cast. I then make another cast out and start retrieving instantly as it wasn't that deep. About 3/4 of the way out, I get a large tug, set the hook and fish on :D! Fought it for about 4-5mins and bring it in to see its a doe chum 8). Questionable if to keep it so i let it go.

After about 2 hours, a few birdsnest's, losing tons of line, i switch to barfishing big chunks of roe. Before i even get it in the water, Young Gun hooks into something nice which took a bunch of hard runs until the fish popped out :P. DANG >:(. Anyways, got a few small taps on the roe...probably just annoying squawfish. After 1 hour of barfishing, I then convert back to chucking spoons. Nothing. The tide came up higher than ive seen it there before. Fish were right infront us, but not biting >:(. Really annoying.

Anyways good day, except for the pouring rain all day.

Here's what i got on the second cast of the day :D

Tight Lines,
Coho Cody ;)

it isn't really that bad , is it? i heard that if the belly is still white and the meat is firm, then it should be in OK shape.

it was a white belly sinaran but it was only second cast on the day. could have gotten better as most fish chumping were almost completely chrome.

And Colton, there were times where no fish would jump for 10 mins, but the pick up to about 3 fish every 30 seconds. ;)
