Yep, it happened to me too last year in the same area.
I had on a spring and my buddy was helping me walking it down and then landing it, and when we went back to our spot, the brown potato bag was gone with our socks. Next week-end, I found the potato bag on the beach, socks gone.
This kind of thing is pretty low, IMHO. I can't imagine the low life that would do something like this. I AM STILL GROWLY OVER THAT EXPERIENCE. >:( >:( >:( >:(

While it might not bring you any relief, at least after hearing these stories i will be more cautious about this happening to me so i thank you for informing me that this would happen. I would have never believed it if so many people didnt confirm that this happens. I only prey that if someone tries it to me, i am fortunate enough to catch them in the act to "discuss" it with them.

When you fish with the monkeys, expect that your peanuts may be stolen.  It's a sad commentary on that particular fishery, IMO.

DragonSpeed,
The only thing that surprises me in your post is that you left your canopy unlocked  :o Did you forget what part of the world you were in?  ;)  Don't get me wrong, this is lower than low but it really doesn't surprise me with everything we've been hearing these days.

You basically baited them by leaving something valuable in an unlocked part of your vehicle. It's almost like leaving your rod in the front seat of your vehicle and leaving the windows down..................and then saying "I can't believe someone stole my rod".

Lock everything up people, remove anything of value from your vehicle and at leats put it out of site. This has been going on for years. It's unfortunate that we have to do this but let's be honest here, there's thieves among us everywhere  :(

FISH.  That's all. FISH.

I just didn't see the net intrinisic value of 4 dead fish to the average thief.  Let's face it most thieves aren't stealing to put something tasty on the BBQ, they are stealing so that they can support a habit.

I suppose next weekend, I'll lock the canopy, even with an empty cooler.  Next time it'll be the cooler otherwise.

Well you said it right..........."why buy native salmon when you can get some from a cooler". Chances are these are people that either didn't get their quota or they are really greedy and wanted more. Unfortunate either way  :-\

I would not lock it as they will most likely smash the window. Then you will be with no fish and a lighter wallet to pay the deductable

I've witness people walking away with other people's landing nets while they're chasing their salmon downstream.

Crazy...never had fish stolen from a campsite cooler but I've lost a few bottles of whiskey and rum over the last few years.

Sad, for sure; though it would p!ss me off if it was my fish that were stolen.

after hearing these stories i will be more cautious about this happening to me ...

No doubt! I was paranoid about people stealing my fish the first time I fished Scale, but after a couple of trips there I told myself to: "relax, everyone here's cool, no one's going steal your fish!" Sounds like I might have to start roping my catch to my waders rather than leaving it in a rock pool! The last thing I need is to catch someone in the act and get a record for assault :p

I agree, Tex.

Yeah, it's frustrating to watch/hear about that fishery sometimes, it seems to bring out the worst in people (or, it brings out the worst people, lol).  If it remains an open fishery, I would hope that more and more people take up the call to self-regulate and look out for the resource, as so many on this forum try and do!

I struggle with that every salmon season.... I don't bb for sockeye, but  I like to fish the vedder  and the behavior is pretty shocking at times. The choice is to get involved and try to educate people, which almost always turns into a confrontation, or to look the other way, in which case I feel guilty. My solution is to hike away from the idiots, or when they can't be avoided, to educate / confront them, even if it ruins my day :)

There's got to be a lot more of us (ethical fishers) than them (woefully ignorant or knowingly unethical fishers) so if we keep asserting ourselves, maybe it will get better :)
