Do you cast spoons and spinners for winter bull trout and cutthroat trout, or do you prefer other lures?

Mainly egg imitations,depending on where.

Spoons and flies swung in the tail outs, or big ugly weighted sculpin patterns stripped in deep dead water.  White and grey or green and grey patters with a little flash have worked best for me.

It depends on where you are fishing…

If you are fishing in the Tidal Fraser River, or any sloughs, backwaters or creek mouths, then your best bet is to cast and retrieve spoons and spinners for them. Small ones for cutthroat trout (1/16oz, 1/8oz) big ones for bull trout (1/4oz+).

If you are fishing in rivers where salmon are spawning, then the best method right now is float fishing small presentations which imitate single eggs which have been deposited by salmon. You'll still catch them on spoons and spinners, but you'll catch many more on egg imitations like trout beads.

Not sure about float fishing, but when fly fishing most people peg the beads onto the line above the hook. Here's a site with some pictures on it :

Thanks all but now whats the best color and size of bead looks like a large size is best also pink to make it look like the egg has been water for a while.

Are these beads boyant and what's the difference of just using or putting single chum BB cured eggs in sacks?

Do you add scent does the trout/char see such a small presentation

Used beads for the first time caught 2 huge cutthroat. I used 6g float 2 split shots 8mm tout bead beige/pink with blood dot, plastic stopper indtead of toothpic and #8 gami hook I also put on a little worm on hook. I think it was the combo that got them. Their stomachs looked huge probably from all those salmon parts. Next week I will put flesh fly instead of hook. Hard to find flesh fly with smaller hook other than making one myself thou.

Hey Rod I was just wondering if the vedder is a river that would work well for the single bead set up? I am not to sure if the populations of those fish are strong enough in the vedder for this. Because that would be perfect for me son and I to do. Any info would be great thanks.

Beads are good for rainbow, cutthroat, and bull/dolly. Especially during the salmon spawning time. You can also use beads for steelhead trout.
The large beads for steelhead and fast and muddy waters, the medium is most common, the smaller is for high fishing pressure waters and low and clear water. Also match the bead with whats in the water and the type of salmon that just spawned.
