Testing line - don't remember
« on: September 04, 2010, 11:58:55 AM »

Anyone know of a way to figure out what lb test fishing line is? I have a spool of braided line, but I don't remember what it is. A couple actually, mono and braided.
Is there a way? I suppose visually I have an idea, but I'd like to know close to exact.

Thanks,

Rob

you need a caliper to measure the diameter,if you know the maker you should be able to get the info from their website.

I'd use a micrometer to measure the gauge then look it up.  With mono it's easy, with braid, if you remember the manufacturer, you can look it up.

Otherwise, you can simply compare thickness of the line to what you know.

Flouro is stronger for the same diameter, but monos are all pretty close.

Get a heavy duty fish scale, a tie the line to the hook, see when it breaks.
