which do you prefer and why

Just wondering what people are using out there for baitcasters. What type is it low profile or regular? and why did you choose that? and specs?. Main reason why I am asking I am looking into buying a new reel and wanted to see what everyone was using, mainly it would be for vedder river and fraser

Custom Abu's & Diawa Luna 300. I have fished the Luna on the Fraser and the Vedder  for 2 seasons and I love how it cast's and handle's springs. I hope this help's.  :) Griz

For springs and chum, go with a regular (round) baitcaster.  For steelhead, coho, pink and sockeye, you can use a low profile.  My reasoning is that regular baitcasters typically have a stronger drag and more line capacity.  A good choice is the Abu garcia C4 or C5.  Not bad reels for the price.  Easy to work on and fairly durable.  If you want to step up to a more dependable reel with a smoother, stronger drag, I'd go with the Shimano Calcutta or Diawa Luna.  IMO, one of the best reels for steelhead and coho is the Shimano Curado.  Not only does this reel work great for bass, I have also landed my fair share of steelhead, coho, pinks and even small springs with it.

Shimano Cuardo, spooled up with 15lb maxima.
Good for all local species, easy to use, very durable, and a fair price.

I use Luna 300 for springs and ocean.  reel is wider than Calcutta holds more line and casts better.
Curado for coho and steelhead.  Light, durable and it's chrome  ;D

I really like the Shimano products because the line release is a wide bar where your thumb sits on the spool.
I tried the Abu reels but the line release is a small lever that on the side of the reel that you press - you need both hands on the reel.

I picked up a Shimano 300 series for a decent price at Army & Navy of all places.
They have Shimano rod & reel combos for $200 but it looks like they broke one apart and sold the reel for $120.
