well started uot at the train bridge worked the area for about 2hrs and nothing. next stop tamahi and zero there. went to the prison and some dude from the forestry stopped us and fisherman are not allowed in to fish anymore as they are using the prison and area for a fire fighting trainning centre. about 150 guys learnin to fight fires.. next stop allison pools. started to rain a bit . we walked in and woo lots of debris from the fall and during the winter. water level is up but clear. fished for 2 hrs and came up empty handed. now on to the meat hole. only 3 guys there and 25 asians camping out. wow lots of garbage everywhere. picked up $6.00 in beer bottles and cans. took 3 bags of garbage that was left behind also.seen 3 springs move through  and one was caught by a young little guy. about 18lbs or so .thins should be better in 2 wks. stopped at the wilson bridge on way home  and a few guys fishing but for trout. they were getting lots of small ones 6-12inches. oh well will try the fraser on sat. tight lines and sharp hooks to all who hit the rivers this weekend ;D ;D 8) 8) 8)

Hey Pep, great report and good job on the clean-up. To bad there are people who don't clean up after themselves, but like the man said (or woman). Pig's are really clean animals you know. So maybe these (___)s keep thier own houses really clean. They just could'nt care less about anyone elses. :-\

Fished Vedder from limit hole, to Lickman, from 10am to 5pm. Beetween three of us we didn't get a single hook up, or see anybody getting anything except two guys who were catching and releasing small trout.
We used bagged roe.
I do not think it is worth of going for a week or two, unless you like to be out there and catching something is secundary thing.

Only what I do not understand is catch and release of small trout. I know it is legal, but you really kill few of them that way. Guys were releasing them carefully but after hour I have seen two floating downstream. I think it is a judgment call, but even when it is legal and you are risking injuring a fish why do you do it?
I would never target them in the first place.
just my opinion, not everybody has to agree I just wanted to say it out in hope somebody would change their view on CR of small and vulnerable fish.

I e-mailed Freds tackle, and they mailed me back. Fred said that the fishing should be alot more productive between the 7th-10th. Onwards, it will be excellent  ;D

These 'trout' are actually Steelhead smolts. The bulk of them are hatchery fish released a while ago. The river has been closed for a month to allow them to make their way down to the fraser unmolested. A lot of the fish still in the Vedder now will residualize and never make it down to the ocean. They compete with wild fish in the river as long as they're in there, so don't feel you can't kill your limit. This is an excellent fishery for kids as they will take almost anything and are quite easy to catch. The scientists have figured in a harvest on these fish, and they would rather see them caught than stay in the river to compete with wild stocks.
If you want to take a kid fishing this is probably one of the best places to do so right now  :)

Yes CJ, they are legal to take. The regulations say this:
hatchery rainbow trout of any length 50 cm or less: daily quota = 4, July 1- Apr 30
No distinction is made between steelhead smolts and rainbow trout as they are the same species.
This regulation is of course specific to the Chilliwack/Vedder system.

This is a great time to use up all your garbage roe before the upcoming salmon season.I fished on saturday and the smolts were destroying my roe bags.
If you want to avoid the plague of the smolts, use large 3/0 hooks and put your roe in large sacs.My buddy hooked a nice spring and lost it at the beach, saw fish rolling and a handful bonked.
