Recommend Reasonably Priced 4 piece #6 Weight?
« on: November 04, 2009, 11:24:48 AM »

Hi,

Can any of you recommend a reasonably priced ( no more then $150, ideally less) 4 piece, #6 weight fly rod? I need one that can pack smaller for when I go on motorcycle and backpacking trips.

Thanks,

I'd vote for a TFO 6 wt. Make sure you get the 4 pc. Much easier to travel with. For trout you can cheap out on the reel a bit but not the line. Look at Searun. They should have all you need. Remember there will be Christmas sales coming up. I hope.  You can't beat the no fault lifetime warranty on TFO rods. Buy local and they will take care of any warranty issues for you.

TFO, Echo and Amundson all have what you are looking for.

and Dragonfly.  They all will be made offshore, but they all will cast nicely.  Budget flyrods by these companies are all quality items and cast nicely.  Most of the time, you don't need anything more in a 6wt IMO.  Have a close look at Amundson, as they are breaking into the market and really excelling in customer service  as well as initial quality (and presumably long term won't be an issue).  I was very impressed with the fit, finish and price of my new Amundson Sturgeon rod.  Jack Simpson (on FlyBC.ca) is also a good guy and will bend over backwards to sort out any issues in the unlikely event that any should arise.
