Man nigel...if you are doing the much reeling, why not just go to a spinnin reel with a higher retrieve ratio!

The first link shows someone reeling in frantically then setting the hook....is the average retrieve that speed????  I could understand you geting tired out!

yes I am looking at a high gear ratio spinning reel. It has 15 ball berrings with a 6:1 ratio and can handle the biggest fish know to man.

This is the one I'm using now for mahi mahi and yellowtails from shore.

But I'm thinking of getting one of these for boat jigging {tuna}
This is the stella 10,000 series but the one I'm after is the 16,000 series.

If you're not familiar with Stella from Japan it's like the porsche of spinning reels. Of course they're not cheap at 95,000 yen 1,000 CDN for them. Thank god I can buy them used at a much more afordable price. ;D

So I guess I'll just use my old calcutta for river fishing back in BC whenever that will be.  ::)  ::)  ::)
