Have you ever wondered how trout are raised at the hatchery? Now you have the opportunity to find out on June 20th! The Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery in Abbotsford will once again be hosting its annual family fishing day in conjunction with the BC's Family Fishing Weekend. This event is not only incredibly entertaining, but it is an educational experience for visitors of all ages.
On Saturday June 20th, visitors to the hatchery will have a chance to catch one of hundreds of rainbow trout at the fishing ponds. Scheduled hatchery tours will also be available, where you can see what takes place behind the scene. Ongoing entertainment will also be taking place throughout the day at the visitor centre, including movies, games, aquaria, puppet shows and other hatchery-related demonstrations. Finally, fish releasing and grand prize draws will finish this fun-filled day. Registration for the event will start at 8:00am on event day and it will be available until 11:30am. The event will end at 1:00pm.
Here is a video clip of last year's event.
Operated by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery is responsible for stocking rainbow and cutthroat trout at hundreds of lakes across Southern British Columbia. Regular releases of these fish provide freshwater fishing opportunities for BC residents and visitors. The hatchery and visitors centre also offer learn to fish sessions for the general public throughout the year.
The Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery is at 34345 Vye Road in Abbotsford. For direction to the hatchery, please visit this page.
