January 24th,
2005: William's Enquiry in Chilliwack
From Frank Kwak, Fraser Valley Salmon Society:
Just a note to let you know that the Williams Enquiry
on 2004 Salmon will now be meeting in Chilliwack.
The date for this opportunity to speak is Feb. 21
at Rhombus Hotel with three different opportunities as follows 10:am
12:30 pm, 2:00 pm 5:00 pm, and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Please be reminded that is very important. You do
not need to have exact dates but do need correct information. It
is very important that anyone who spent time on a bar especially
overnight and you have information that drift net fishing was occurring
in an area that you deem to be illegal that you come forward and
testify.
So what they need to hear are things like on such
and such a day or week I was fishing X bar on the Fraser River between
the hours of ____ time or at approximately ____ time and saw Y number
of drift nets that were illegal because they were during a closed
time or closed day or a closed location.
Or I stayed on X bar for Y number of days and night
and say ____ drift nets during the day and Y number hours during
the night. You will be asked to testify under oath but can decline.
If you decline your testimony will still be accepted but of lesser
value than if you speak under oath.
You also need to remember that all drift nets that
you saw fished below Jespersen or above Jones Hill were illegal.
Any photos or videos would also be great evidence.
I would think that every guide saw at least one
illegal net and so every guide should be coming to testify. Remember
this is your livelihood not mine!
Thanks
Frank Kwak
