2005: Changes in 2005-2007 Sport Fishing Guide
From Fisheries & Oceans Canada:
To provide better service to recreational fishers,
DFO is introducing some progressive changes to the Sport Fishing
Guide this year.
The on-line B.C. Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Guide/Freshwater
Salmon Supplement will see some key changes. With input from members
of the recreational community as well as DFO staff, DFO's recreational
fishing website will be revamped to make it more user friendly,
more intuitive to navigate through, and will include printable pages.
It is expected that the website overhaul will be completed for April
1, 2005.
The on-line recreational fishing information will
continue to be updated throughout the year, to provide the most
up-to-date information possible. The on-line changes will be a complement
to the new on-line
fishing licence service that was launched in 2004. We expect
that the website, however, will continue to be the primary source
of the latest information on sport fishing regulations for those
fishing for finfish or shellfish. In addition, the 666-2828 phone
line, which includes sport fishing information, will remain active
and updated.
A paper version of the Sport Fishing Guide/Freshwater
Salmon Supplement will continue to be available for 2005-2007. The
Guide will make numerous references to the website for more information
and for updates. The content of the Guide/Supplement will be slightly
reduced. Throughout the booklet, we will be directing people to
the newly revised website for additional and more up-to-date information
(and asking licence vendors to do the same).
Over the next two years, DFO will be working with
the recreational fishing community to make further changes to how
the regulations are presented to the public. The intent is to move
in the direction of a web-based Sport Fishing Guide/Freshwater Salmon
Supplement starting in 2007. At the same time, a complementary handout
will be developed with the basic information for anglers.
Thanks,
Michelle Imbeau
