Seems pretty stupid to slash someones tires, as unless you actually see the people stand next to the car there is no way to tell if its theirs or not. Someone else could have parked there and walked down river, the people fishing illegally could have been dropped off. My buddy caught a guy breaking into his car and the cops found the guy knocked out cold with a shattered jaw and his hands tied up with my buddy standing over him . damaging a vehicle is not always smart especially when you don't know who you are messing with.

Then I'm sure your buddy was privy to some serious lawful punishment, as what he did (assault and battery, illegal restraint) is considered a far worse crime than breaking into a vehicle.  If the police didn't, hopefully that car thief pressed charges.

This happened a number of years ago, he was never charged as the thief refused to cooperate. Cops new who the suspect was, multiple multiple offenses, and even told my buddy that they wished more cronic offenders ended up like that. My message is merely before anyone attempts to vandalize or do something stupid think twice as you may end up knocked out or worse! Use your brains out there people

Are you really that sympathetic to the criminals when you get to your car to find it broken into; or worst yet arrive at dusk to find it not driveable. Vigilante is never the solution; just tempting.

Resorting to personal attacks rather than constructive feedback, classy.  The point I was eluding to was that violence, in almost every circumstance or situation, should be avoided.  Law enforcement exists for a reason and I condone neither vandalism nor violence pertaining to it.  Both are punishable by law and should be enforced.

Oh come on... that's as "vigilante justice" as it gets.  Protecting whats yours is not connected in ANY way with any beating that happens after the fact...let's not pretend it's anything but revenge.

I've had no repeat offenders.
Must be I did something right.

I have no use for lowlifes who make it a habit to steal from hard-working folk to support their lifestyle.
They are a waste of oxygen, IMO.

i don't condone violence, but i'd be hard pressed to say i wouldn't get physical if i caught some A-hole breaking into or vandalizing my car.
