This week The Common Sense Canadian is asking people to consider the
implications of turning our lakes into toxic dumps for mines. Through
a variety of media, we will be discussing the topic and asking the
public to write to Stephen Harper and let him know what it thinks
about the current proposal to turn Fish Lake (Teztan Biny), home to
85,000 rainbow trout, into a tailing pond for the proposed "Prosperity
Mine." The federal government has already floated the idea of turning
18 lakes across Canada into tailing ponds - so letting Fish Lake go
would set a disastrous precedent.
Rafe and Damien talked about Fish Lake, their new website, and other
media and environmental matters with the Public Eye's Sean Holman on
his Sunday CFAX show in Victoria. Look for a second article from Rafe
on Fish Lake later this week - and Damien will have an in-depth
discussion on the topic when he guest-hosts Vancouver Co-op Radio
(102.7 FM) this Wednesday morning from 7:30-8:30 - featuring an
interview with biologist John Werring (the show will be available at
TheCanadian.org following its live airing).
