The Department has released the second version of the South Coast Salmon IFMP which you can find on our website below:

Heard last night at a FVSS meeting they may now not open to July 1  but that is not engraved in stone. It depends on what the Albion Test fishery catch totals will be showing.

DFO was supposed to update the forecast June 1.   Does anybody have a link to this forecast?

Don't you just love the way fisheries updates their decisions?  I read it that because the forecast is above minimum numbers the Fraser is now open instead of the original June 16th opener.  Please somebody clarify if this is right or wrong for me?

Yes and no, depending on which areas that you are referring to.

Fishery notice 386 that Lapa posted is a revised management measure that was set out in fishery notice 369, which affects Area 29 off the mouth of Fraser River (Subareas 29-6, 29-7, 29-9 and 29-10). In these areas, the daily quota of chinook salmon has been revised from zero per day to two per day (both have to be over 62cm in length).

Retention of chinook salmon in the Tidal and Non-tidal Fraser River remains closed until further notice.

yes it is still closed but this is good. Further resrictions would be in place if the run was forcasted at under 40,000 fish, so with 60,000 being forcasted we can hope for an opening without a slot size restriction as early as june 16th. Hopefully this will be the case on the 8th when the update us further.

If we are open on the 16th, how much bar will be available to fish.  It looks pretty high to me right now...

not right away but the river will drop and clean up probably sooner than usual. From what i have heard the snow pack this year is not near what it usually is. I saw a spring jump right near the boat while out on the fraser this weekned.

Upper Fraser watersshed above average snow pack. Lots of snow to melt from the higher levels yet.

Here's a site to check out for snow levels-  http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/rfc/river_forecast/bulletin.htm    Looks to me like there is still plenty of snow yet to melt.
