Endangered Rivers
« on: December 11, 2008, 09:38:13 AM »

May be of interest to the forum. I received this e-mail today.

Dear River advocates,

Just updating you on a couple of fronts...

Endangered Rivers List, 2009
The nomination process for the new
2009 Endangered Rivers List is now
commencing and will run through March 7.
The new list will be released in late March
or early April, 2009.

Nominations can be sent directly to
Mark Angelo (mark_angelo@bcit.ca).
The list always receives a great amount
of media coverage and helps to increase
public awareness while also profiling
important river issues.

The list is also based on feedback from
tens of thousands of British Columbians.
Last year's endangered rivers backgrounder is
available at www.orcbc.ca/

Brohm Creek News Feature on You Tube
And in case you missed a recent broadcast on
Global News concerning the steelhead fishery
on Brohm Creek near Squamish, check out this
You Tube link for a quick-but-informative look
at development concerns there...

Heart of the Fraser on Global News
Also, Global news will be doing a feature
tonight or tomorrow (Thursday or Friday)
on the 6PM news on the Heart of the Fraser
and its outstanding sturgeon population.

The program will focus on an extensive sturgeon
research and tagging operation as well as the
development pressures that are now confronting
one of the most productive stretches of river on earth.
There is currently no collaborative plan for this area.
The program features interviews with Mark Angelo,
Marvin Rosenau and others.

This story ran this evening on the 6 news on Global, some of you may have seen it. If not I imagine it will run on the late news tonight and it also should also be on Global's web page later this evening.
