i have never seen the need to since i have never hooked one deep.i guess it would make sense if they were trying to swallow everything you threw at them

I find circle hooks better for salmon season, I think they help avoid foul hook ups. I just use octopus gammy's or teimco fly hooks.

When fishing for 'the fish of a thousand casts', I will NOT diminish my chances of hooking into one by using circle hooks, especially since I don't use bait.
