Chilliwack-Vedder River cleanup April 16

The Chilliwack Vedder River Clean up Society is hosting our first clean up of 2016 on Saturday April 16 at the Great Blue Heron Reserve.  Registration starts at 0830, and is over around noon.  As usual there will coffee and juice, donuts and muffins.  Bring your own refillable water container.  This is a great way to give back to the river you love, and an opportunity to meet like minded folks.  See you there!

A final reminder about tomorrow :) As well as bringing a refillable water container, do the same with a refillable coffee mug as we really don't want to create more garbage ...

We had nearly 200 volunteers show up and a dumpster was filled with several tons of garbage that is no longer on the banks of the Chilliwack -Vedder River.  We are finding more families bringing their kids, and the good news is the kids are loving it! This is very encouraging for us organizers and are happy to have on board a new ambassador (apparently people under 18 are not eligible to be Directors, according to the Societies act), a local high school student keen to be involved, and even keener to get other youth on side :D 
Garbage was removed from Foley Lake to the Highway Bridge over the canal, with the most coming from the old Riverside Resort area at the Vedder Bridge.  This land is owned by a local realtor- we hope he appreciates the money volunteers are saving him when he eventually develops this property.
