Powerbait vs worms vs roe
« on: January 24, 2006, 12:56:06 PM »

Hi

When I'm not flyfishing, I tend to use the Trusty worm on a wedding-band, either trolled/retrieved or on the bottom. BUT, I'm not keen on trying to keep the worms alive, etc. Same with roe. I want something I can keep in my tacklebox or even pocket. So I'd like to use powerbait, but have had NO success with it. Any hints? What kind should I use? Are the "powerbait worms" or "powerbait eggs" any good?

As to what I'm "targeting" - the answer is pretty much anything. Probably cutts or pikeminnows, maybe carp or the occasional rainbow, maybe even steelhead! Whatever happens to be in the slough, river, backwater or lake I'm fishing in.

When I was a youngin' and did a lot of bobber lake fishing I had more luck with the orange powerbait eggs than regular powerbait. When river fishing with artificials I use rubber jensen egg clusters with a tuft of wool in the bait loop with some scent applied to it (egg milk, anise).

hey, i like to use oarage power bait as well as eagle eye, but i like to use the power bait nuggets oarage like i said is what i like, the regular power bait is ok...but i find it doesnt stay on to well, but if you but a peaice of that roe bag mesh through the bait loop, and then put the power bait on the hook, then mush it gentaly into the mesh of the roe bag mesh i find it stay alot longer. as for the power bait worms never tried them. , but i have used there grubs for bass, and trout and they work pretty good. hope that helps.
