This early start has me kind of concerned. The lakes have about 5" of ice around Kamloops but they have been frozen over for at least 2 weeks. If there is a late Spring there could be a hefty winter kill. Oh well, that's a issue for later me. Now to go out and enjoy it.

Climate change is indeed, very concerning! It's all up in the air, literally.

Another good haul today. The bigger ones did not cooperate but the 16 inchers were all quite accommodating. Fish were cruising and feeding above weed in 4 to 6ft of water.

Those brookies are still pretty much in their spawning colors.

That's not really spawning colour actually. These are also triploid/sterile so would not get into that spawning phase.

Did a livestream at the lake this morning and it couldn't have worked out better. The ending of the video was something that I couldn't even plan out lol.

Maybe its just me and the hundreds of brookies I've caught, but I've never seen a red belly like that on a chrome brookie.

I caught this kokanee in the Cariboo on Sunday. Is it normal to find them this coloured up at this time of year? It was my first kokanee through the ice.

they spawn in the fall & die soon afterwards, so I wouldn't think so.

Unlike trout, stocked kokanee are usually diploid for better performance. They don't spawn in the lakes stocked if there's no habitat to do so. Usually they just get into that spawning phase and die without spawning eventually.

Thanks Rod. Most of the Kokanee I've seen come through the ice (in pics and videos) have been bright silver. Wasn't sure if this was an anomoly or not.
