when usually in Nov will the bar fishing in fraser open? The water clarity looks awesome so far
-
Looks like the 42 day closure happens on Oct 30, 2022.
-
They usually open it after the fish have moved through.

same as pinks, spincasting, otherwise you can bar fish with roe Rod has a video of each on youtube.
What im curious about is Chum. Watching Rod's old video on barfishing for coho he mentions that chum don't bite in the Fraser and aren't aggressive in estuary but get very aggressive and bitey in their home river, is this true? Does that mean there is no suitable way to catch them? Which would be like sockeye being open in the tidal fraser but no way to catch them, is DFO just messing with us with a 4 limit that in unachievable?

I did see Rod's video on spincasting and bar fishing for Coho, just that I dont know where spincasting would work in lower fraser - is it like sockeye where lower fraser does not work for coho? not looking to get any spots.........
I know Rod caught a coho from steveston few years ago, which might be a rare occurence.

coho are different from sockeye as they will bite lures in the fraser although this late it would rare it is not impossible. Any spot close to shore where it shallows would suffice, might also get a nice bull, dolly, or cutthroat.
-
after some digging I believe this thread has most of our answers, in conclusion, chum rarely bite in the fraser, though it is possible to catch them on lures though more likely bar fishing with roe.

Mission bridge park, Glen Valley park, Derby reach, Brownsville, river road in delta are all good spots to spincast. its getting late in the season so there will be limited numbers.

Even though the chances are low, its good to be out even for few hours close to my place. Will give some of those spots a try. Have you caught any Coho on fraser using spincast? just curious

I caught one a few years back on an orange/silver #5 blue fox spinner. Coho like to travel in the shallows close to shore so its not impossible. just have to be there when they're moving through.

its true. My friend saw one jump 3 m from shore while he was course fishing about two weeks ago

Not common but I've had a couple during previous pink seasons on spoons. This time of year would also be a rare occurrence, but not impossible. The lower the water clarity, go bigger on the presentation and hope for the best
-
when you throw spoons or fish spinners on the Fraser you don't fish for anything specific. I have caught coho, cutthroat and once 3 chum in 20 minutes. Boy were they dark!
-
Thats cool....thanks all....atleast ill get to spend some time fishing since its very close to my place and dont have to think twice.....

Note that the openings in the tidal portion is broken up into two stages. October 31st for downstream from Port Mann, and November 2nd downstream from Mission. Non-tidal downstream from Hope opens on November 3rd. This have been weeks of communications back and forth between myself and the resource managers to get these open on the dates which they should be. Last year, nobody was on top of this and the openings didn't start until November 15th. It's unnecessary time and energy wasted on reminding the department to provide the opportunities for rec fishers when they should be.
Regarding casting spoons and spinners for coho. I've probably caught more coho by lure fishing than bait fishing in the Tidal Fraser River since the mid 90s. Water clarity is excellent this year so I'd think success should be better than other years.

Any Tidal reports? Saw a couple jacks caught at Brownsville Friday. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow.

bcfishingdoctors reported 9... in two hours!! he got his hatchery limit. Said the key was not to cast straight out.
-
I fished langley from 3:30 to 5:30. a few nibble, nothing caught
-
Fished Glen Valley yesterday. High to low tide. 1 sturgeon, 2 wild jacks, 1 hatchery jack, which I kept. Missed a few other good bites. Overall not a bad day for this late in the season.
Weather was wild but managed to stick it out for the day.

nice! what size was the sturgeon? Not big enough to brake your coho rod XD. 3 fish is a lot better than no fish.

The sturgeon was around 3 feet. Not huge. My leader broke before I got it in, jumped and rolled couple times. Might try again on the long weekend. Good High tide in the morning.

another report from him

I FEEL WINTER COMING...
I see the mountain lakes freezing up and I'm already starting to think about switching gears.
Coho and salmon fishing has me hooked though and I'll ride every dwindling wave of coho right till the end.
Yesterday I tried the Tidal Fraser out again and it was drastically different compared to Friday. I only hooked one fish on a @primelures spoon that unfortunately came off. Very few risers. The water was murky, but I just feel like there were much less fish passing by. So could we be nearing the end?
Sure they slowly trickle in, but the big movements are seemingly done.
These pics are from the Thursday prior, before the first big storm blew the Vedder out the first time. It has been blown a couple times since and the last was a significant high water event. So things are probably different out there and I haven't been back.
I was fishing with my colleague Dr. Van Der Watt who lives in the area. I was showing him the ropes and trying to get him hooked into some fish.
We had plenty of bobber downs on @cleardrifttackle beads. The bite was pretty steady all day and I must have caught 6 coho and 5 chum. Unfortunately he didn't connect with any of his bobber droppers. Three were hatchery that I kept and the first fish of the day on my third cast was a hatchery jack coho that I released. Always regret those when you go home one short, haha.
It has been a fantastic season. I've been saying this since the end of September! I hope you enjoyed it as well.
