Now if we only could get the Feds to run the existing Hatcheries to full capacity for all species, we would have something!

Okay, I get the Atlantic Salmon joke, but how do you name "the Pacific Salmon" the official fish of BC?  The Atlantic Salmon (salmo salar) is a distinct species, but there are 7 different species of Pacific Salmon.  Which one is the "official" fish?  I vote the sockeye for its historical significance to the development of BC, although my personal choice would be the Steelhead for its mythological and spiritual significance.

I vote for coho.
Steelhead is too rare and elitist. Pink too small and numerous. sockeye don't bite. spring don't like to jump. Chum is well chum.  ;D ;D

There's the argument for why they are probably using "Pacific Salmon" as the label. Much of the population has no idea of the differences and then there are those that have a favorite.... ;D

It's just a symbol. I wish they would do more to protect them, before all we have is a symbol.

It should be the the steelhead that is the provincial fish. Think of the the Thompson or any river up north, they're all world renowned fisheries due to the steelhead.

Sockeye do bite by the way try float fishing some prawns in the chedder when the Chilliwack lake run is running, they bite readily and are extremely acrobatic. As for the chum yeah chum are chum when they're half dead, try fighting a chrome one in the rivers or the salt even.
