Almost every time I read an article on salmon farming, I hear about a new disease.

This time it is something called "furunculosis":
"Furunculosis, caused by the bacterium Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida (A. salm), is one of the most serious infectious diseases of wild and farmed salmonids throughout the world,"

Also, if you click on the link below "US prices up" in that article, there is a quote:
"However, prices are still below production costs, and Chilean farmers are losing around $0.50 to $1 per kilo at current prices according to Nordea’s estimates."

Chile has to be one of the cheapest places to farm salmon based on their labour costs.
Why do they continue to farm salmon in BC when it must be a losing proposition?
