This message is timely due to the dirty water conditions today. Hats off to David and the others on the Committee for all their work.
The CRAC work on stabilizing the Anderson Run Slide to reduce river
siltation and degradation of 29 km of downstream habitat is a major
accomplishment for this summer. Work starts tomorrow, with road access,
Wednesday, hauling boulders and rip rap, Thursday building groynes and
Friday clean up. Hope all goes well for the schedule. Golder Associates
did the engineered design and construction plans; Jack Mussell, will be our
field supervisor and environmental monitor along with CRAC volunteers and
Mark Johnson, CA from DFO; Jakes Construction, providing the heavy
equipment, boulders from Tolmie Pit; KelMor Enterprises trucking rip rap and
LWD.
To receive grants, half of the value of the project has to come from CRAC as
volunteer work as in-kind contributions discounts and donations. Grants
came from VanCity Credit Union, Pacific Salmon Foundation, and the BC
Lottery Commission. Construction costs budget of $37,580; Engineering costs
$28,500; value of in-kind contributions volunteer work in excess of $40,000.
The Sec. 9 Approval from MOE under the Water Act has required a lot
engineering reports and other paper work, very extensive and exhausting,
over several years. Any of you who wish to review the file let me know, you
are more than welcome.
If you can make it up to the Anderson Run site Thursday afternoon, access
through the Allison Pool campsite, you could see the groynes being built.
You are more than welcome, but please keep back from working equipment.

These projects are not new to the Chilliwack river system and have had limited success in the past,one area gets fixed and another opens up. Its good to see some effort is being made to address the problems but i wouldn't get to excited about it.

The chilliwack river action commitee does amazing work for salmon habitat on the chilliwack river .The anderson slide if left to moe would have taken a 15 year study than hundreds of thousands of dollars.Crac does this work for a fraction of the price through donations.This is a small group making a huge difference.If you want to make a donation that will make a difference your money will be well spent with them.

Was the work able to start on this project? And if so how far along are they?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I thought the main problem was the clay banks by the Ranger Run and NOT the one below Allison.
